The field trip was a day long trip for about 60 Wapello third graders on Friday, November 14.

The trip stated with a short bus ride to the Port Louisa National wildlife refuge where the kids were able to see all kinds of wildlife like, bald eagles, wild turkeys, and many waterfowl.

The kids then looked at the water inlet tubes and learned a little about management of the lake. They are then taken to Shaffer Access where they learn about the controlled hunting area and partake in a mock blind drawing.

The afternoon sessions started about noon at Sand Run at  Lake Odessa.

The students rotated through five sessions.
Each group of about 12 students visited each station for about 20 minutes. The five
sessions were tour of a duck blind; decoys; duck calling; dog
demonstration; and meet the author of "Duck Hunting with Grandpa."
